The initial effort to organize a DAR chapter in Union Parish was a meeting of six ladies on March 23, 1983. The following October 14, 1983, D'Arbonne Chapter was organized and became the 56th chapter of the Louisiana Society, Daughters of the American Revolution. Its name was derived from a bayou
that has aided the growth and development of the area and today furnishes Lake D'Arbonne, truly a sportsman's paradise.
Mrs. Thomas K. Doles was the first regent followed by Mrs. Thomas J. Miller, Mrs. R.H. Upshaw, Mrs. Allen Futch, and Mrs. Harold L. Sweet.
Mrs. Billy H. Till was elected recording secretary of the Louisiana Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, for 1992-1995, according the chapter its first such honor.
