Halimah Chapter was named for a legendary
Choctaw Indian maiden.
The chapter has marked the graves of two Revolutionary War soldiers: first is Jonathan Kemp, who is buried at Kemp Cemetery in St. Helena
Parish; second is the grave of Lt. James Jackson,
who fought in South Carolina and is buried in the
Jackson family cemetery.
In 2005, Inez Tate received a Community Service Award for her work with the St. Helena Historical Association. She has written or supervised the compiling of 15 books on local history and served as president for over twenty years!
